A division of Prison Fellowship Ministries, Project Angel Tree is a loving opportunity to connect with children from all over Central Ohio who have at least one incarcerated parent. Not only will you help build a relationship between the child and parent, but also between the child and their Heavenly Father. This year, the party will be held on Saturday, December 14, from noon-2pm at our church. There are so many ways to support this special mission!
Volunteer opportunities – Leading up to the party:
- Gift Purchaser: Stop by the Angel Tree table in the Commons, Sunday, November 17 & 24, to pick out an “Angel” (or more than one!) for whom you will purchase gifts. Guidelines and suggestions are available at the table.
All gifts are due to the church by Sunday, December 8.
- Angel Tree Table Crew: SUNDAY, NOV. 17 & 24, DEC. 1 & 8: serve before 1st service - between services - after 2nd service. Staff our Angel Tree table during Angel tag selection and gift return. 2 Volunteers needed per day.
- Sign Preparation: A creative person to make signage for event day, including road sign, church entrance sign, and display outside of craft room. Must be ready for Friday Night Set-Up on Dec. 13. 1 Volunteer needed.
- Gift bagger: Organize gifts into family groups and bag and tag together the week before the party (Dec.8 – Dec. 13). 2 volunteers needed.
- Friday Night Set-Up: (FRIDAY, DEC. 13, 6 – 8 PM) Assist with dining room set-up, including tables, chairs, and decorations. 10 Volunteers needed.
Volunteer opportunities – Day of the party – Saturday, Dec. 14:
- Gift Organization and Distribution Team: (11 AM – 2:30 PM) Assist with gift table set-up and distribution to our “angel” families. 2 volunteers needed.
- Drivers: (11 AM – 3 PM) Pick up attendees who do not have their own transportation. Drive them home following the event. Vehicles will be provided. 6 volunteers needed.
- Registration, Greeters, Seaters: (11:00 AM – 1 PM) Welcome and sign in all our host families and “angel” families as they arrive, and escort them to their assigned tables. 6 volunteers needed.
- Servers: (11:15 AM – 2 PM) Serve our special guests and host families a meal in their honor. Monitor food, drink, and dessert tables, and re-supply items as needed from the kitchen. Assist with meal and table clean up. If you are willing to serve as the “Server In Charge”, please contact Stephanie. 12 volunteers needed.
- Up for Anything! : (11 AM – 2:30 PM) Step in to fill any needs that may be identified throughout the event. This could mean serving as a greeter, server, table host, or helping with set-up and tear down. If you are flexible, this is the job for you! 4 volunteers needed.
- Table Hosts: (11 AM – 2:30 PM) 18 table hosts needed.
- It would be great for your entire family to host a table! Our “angel” families enjoy the interaction and this is where we really have an opportunity to show them God’s love!
- Provide festive tableware for your table of about 10 people.
- Provide a festive centerpiece for your table that can be sent home with your family.
- Arrive as early as 10 AM, but no later than 11 AM, to set up your own table, and be present before our guests arrive.
- Welcome your “angels” and guests as if you were in your own home. Greet them at your table, then invite them to join you in some crafts and games before lunch. During the meal, encourage conversation and laughter.
- Assist your family in collecting their bag of gifts. Offer to assist them in taking all their items, including table decorations and possibly take-home food to the parking lot (to their car or to the van in which we transported them.)
Volunteer opportunities – After the Party:
- Gift Home Deliveries: (Dec. 14 - 22) For “angel” families unable to attend the party, we need families willing to deliver gifts to the caregiver’s home address. This is a great group activity and an opportunity to share God’s love with these families. 5 volunteers needed.
